    Job Overview

    The Director for Veterans Services and Veterans to Naval Careers (funded through Office of Naval Research) serves as a leader and key strategist in the development and management of comprehensive programs and services that support the success of military-connected students (student veterans, active-duty service members, dependents eligible for United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits, and undergraduate and graduate interns). Leads department to address barriers which impact academic success and contributes to student access, retention, and graduation rates. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, advocates for students, educates the campus on promising practices, promotes holistic student success and efforts which positively impact a sense of belonging within the CSUSM community.

    The Director provides supervision and development to professional and student staff (Stateside, VA, and CSUSM Corporation). Manages complex budgets including state and governmental funding, grants, and philanthropic donations. Ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines. Serves as a member of the Student Life Management Team, Student Affairs Leadership Team, and will lead and/or participate on university committees. In addition, works collaboratively with other institutional senior leaders on philanthropic initiatives, external community engagement, and relationship development with local military installations (e.g., Marine Corps Camp Pendleton, Naval Base San Diego, and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar) and local university ROTCs. When appointed, the Director provides institutional leadership by proactively and responsively responding to, and facilitating campus conversations around, critical campus-based student concerns.

    This is a full-time, exempt position in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP). MPP positions serve at the pleasure of the President.

    Pay, Benefits, and Work Schedule

    Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $8,209 - $9,167 per month

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,053 - $16,221 per month

    Salary is commensurate with the background and experience of the individual selected.

    This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

    This position is required to work in person on campus.
