    The Position

    Certified Nursing Assistants perform basic restorative services and basic nursing services related to the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, basic mental health and protection of patient rights.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

    Certified Nursing Assistants will work under the direct supervision of a Correctional Nurse II. They will contribute to basics health assessments, collects, reports and records on flow sheets and treatment sheets basic objectives and subjective data related to Patient's health status and reports any changes to the CN II. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current enrollment in a formal training program required for certification as a nursing assistant which has been approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing; OR completion of a formal Certified Nursing Assistant training program approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing with results of the certification examination pending. (In accordance with 42 CFR 483.75 (e)(2) (1998) an individual may retain Nursing Assistant Trainee status without certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant from the State of Nevada Board of Nursing for no more than four months, on a full-time basis.) Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, some positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to pre-employment screening for controlled substances. Certification as a Nursing Assistant by the Nevada State Board of Nursing is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment for the Certified Nursing Assistant I, II and III. Some positions require current CPR certification at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
