DUTIES SUMMARY
Under the general supervision perform moderately complex to complex and diverse technical and engineering assignments; plan, design, and coordinate construction activities related to the development, design, and construction of public water utility, water reclamation, and sewer collection facilities; may provide functional guidance, training, and direction to Engineering Technicians as assigned in a lead role.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Senior Engineering Technician is an advanced journey level technical classification with the engineering series. Incumbents perform moderately complex to complex professional engineering work under general supervision and act as a lead for Engineering Technicians. Direction may be received from the Construction Project Manager, Engineer, or Engineering Associate. Supervision is received from the Engineering Manager, Principal Engineer, Construction Services Manager, Development Services Manager, or other designee.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical sciences, or related field.
AND
Two (2) years of closely related engineering work experience.
OR
Associate’s degree in engineering, physical sciences or related field.
AND
Four (4) years of closely related engineering work experience.
OR
High school diploma, or equivalent.
AND
Six (6) years of closely related engineering work experience which would have provided the required level of knowledge, ability, and proficiency required to perform technical engineering duties.
Certificates: Must obtain and maintain a valid California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Water Treatment Operator Grade 2 certificate within 24 months or appointment.
AND
Must obtain and maintain a valid California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 certificate within 24 months of appointment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
An employee within this classification may be designated as a "key responder" and as such shall be required to respond to non-normal working hour emergency operational conditions.
Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license. For out of state applicants, a valid driver’s license is required and a valid Class “C” California driver’s license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (CA Vehicle Code 12505c).
Must be able to respond to callouts or emergencies including being on-call.
PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work involves exposure to potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and infectious disease. There is frequent need to stand, sit, stoop, walk, and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
Incumbents require sufficient mobility to work in variety of environmental and weather conditions; to climb stairs and ladders daily; to transport materials and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds; to work in a boom truck with lift of 30 to 60 feet; and to work to heights of 150 feet. Must be able to see in the normal visual range with or without correction. Must be able to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Salary: $43.3996 to $55.5552 hourly
