    Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Forestry Division located at 1520 West 9th Street
    Salary Range: $19.27-$29.39/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains trees along public streets and on public grounds that may be performed under adverse weather conditions.
    • Handles tasks incidental to the care and maintenance of trees on city streets and grounds.
    • Follows proper safety practices to protect themselves, other employees, and the public.
    • Participates in the pruning, removing, cleanup of tree brush and wood, planting, and care of trees on city grounds.
    • Assignments are received written, verbally, or electronically in the form of work orders and typically have detailed instructions regarding the work to be performed.
    • Work is inspected during the process and is subject to final review for conformance with instructions by a supervisor.
    • Performs proper job-site setups, following all safety practices while performing tree work operations and wearing all the proper PPE.
    • Participates in the removal of brush from cities properties and easements.
    • Participates in the removal of dead, dying and storm damaged trees.
    • Sets up work zone area, using ropes to lower limbs and large wood sections of tree to ground, raking and clean-up of area.
    • Participates in the pruning of dead, broken undesirable branches, including crown thinning, training, and shaping the trees when needed.
    • Rakes and performs final cleanup of ground area from tree work performed.
    • Performs stump grinding and clean up.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES high school graduation OR 6 months of experience in general labor. May be required to possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
