JOB SUMMARY JOB SUMMARY Performs lifeguard duties; maintain pool and pool area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING ESSENTAIL FUNCTIONS - Perform lifeguard duties; guard pool; rescue drowning swimmers; administer first aid; enforce adherence to safety rules in the pool; fill out forms; maintain certification through in-service training; perform safety inspections daily.
- Maintain pool and pool area: maintain mechanical equipment; check chemical levels in the pool; pick up trash; clean decks; vacuum; clean bathrooms and perform janitorial work as needed; attend in-service training for pool maintenance.
- Assist in teaching swimming lessons; guard swimmers taking lessons and provide assistance for first aid.
DECISION MAKING This position works under general supervision. Uses judgment to determine action needed during emergency situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Must be at least 16 years old.
- Must have an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or be able to obtain the certification before the start of summer. (ARCL Certification class will be offered by City of San Marcos in April on select weekends)
CORE COMPETENCIES AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS JOB DIMENSIONS Able to handle people effectively in emergency situations, good oral communication skills to teach lessons and educate the public. Extensive contact with the public, must be able to interact in a courteous and professional manner. Basic calculations to measure chemicals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include working outdoors in heat, humidity and wind. Exposed to chlorine, muriatic acid and other pool chemicals. Navigates slippery surfaces; exposed to noise from crowds, whistles and pump room. Subject to standing, sitting, vision, hearing, talking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, handling, foot controls, fine dexterity.
Safety Sensitive Position. WORK HOURS 9:00am-6:00pm
