    Job Location: This position will be located at the State Capitol Building in Jefferson City, Missouri.

    The Division of Research for the Missouri Senate is seeking an attorney in a nonpartisan, fast-paced, multi-faceted legislative environment. This is a highly professional position working with members of the Missouri Senate at the State Capitol Building.

    • Draft legislation for the Missouri Senate, including bills, substitute bills and amendments
    • Staff committees of the Senate, interim committees, and Senate/House Joint committees with research and analysis of legislation and topics before the committees, and draft reports for committees as necessary
    • Staff the legislative sessions of the Missouri Senate by monitoring debate and providing requested changes/amendments to bills being debated on the floor of the Senate
    • Prepare summaries on legislation debated in the Senate
    • Review bills on matters of technical form
    • Assists Senate members with topical research on matters of public policy, prepare legal opinions, analyze legislative proposals, and develop policy alternatives
    • Assists members with constituent matters by obtaining information and drafting responses which require technical information
    • Monitors developments in public policy and develops skills relevant to the issue areas assigned to the staff attorney
    • Performs other related work as assigned


    Required Qualifications:

    • Juris Doctorate from an accredited university or college
    • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
    • Ability to work well under pressure, adapt to various situations, and prioritize multiple work assignments simultaneously while managing various interruptions and meeting deadlines as required by the legislative process
    • Advanced knowledge of research methods
    • Knowledge of the legislative process
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
