Job Location: This position will be located at the State Capitol Building in Jefferson City, Missouri.

- Draft legislation for the Missouri Senate, including bills, substitute bills and amendments
- Staff committees of the Senate, interim committees, and Senate/House Joint committees with research and analysis of legislation and topics before the committees, and draft reports for committees as necessary
- Staff the legislative sessions of the Missouri Senate by monitoring debate and providing requested changes/amendments to bills being debated on the floor of the Senate
- Prepare summaries on legislation debated in the Senate
- Review bills on matters of technical form
- Assists Senate members with topical research on matters of public policy, prepare legal opinions, analyze legislative proposals, and develop policy alternatives
- Assists members with constituent matters by obtaining information and drafting responses which require technical information
- Monitors developments in public policy and develops skills relevant to the issue areas assigned to the staff attorney
- Performs other related work as assigned
Required Qualifications: - Juris Doctorate from an accredited university or college
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, adapt to various situations, and prioritize multiple work assignments simultaneously while managing various interruptions and meeting deadlines as required by the legislative process
- Advanced knowledge of research methods
- Knowledge of the legislative process
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
