Situated in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, Pierce County is a vibrant region that’s home to comfortable weather, affordable living options, ample water sports and outdoor recreation opportunities, and a thriving arts scene. Twenty-three cities and towns are located within Pierce County which is also known for its world-class healthcare and outstanding school districts. The City of Tacoma is known for its vibrant culture, abundant natural beauty, and friendly residents. From gorgeous waterfront views to diverse neighborhoods, the Tacoma area is an inviting and picturesque place to work and live.

The Port of Tacoma (Port) is among the largest deepwater container ports in North America. More than 70% of its international cargo emanates from or is delivered to the central and eastern parts of the U.S. The Port also handles about 80% of the marine cargo between Alaska and the lower 48 states. The Port is a key part of the Northwest Seaport Alliance (a partnership between the Port of Tacoma and the Port of Seattle), acting as a partner port where both entities combine their resources to operate as a single, larger port entity in the Puget Sound region.

The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is primarily responsible for the development and implementation of human resources (HR) programs that support the Port and the Northwest Seaport Alliance’s (NWSA) vision, mission and goals. This position functions in an executive capacity to provide proactive advice and counsel to the Executive Team for each organization in developing employee strategies that align with and drive the Port and NWSA’s business. Public and/or private labor relations experience is essential to success in this assignment. The candidate should also possess experience in a multi-union, public sector environment and have a thorough understanding of the principles and techniques related to employee and labor relations collective bargaining laws, procedures, and practices.

The Port of Tacoma offers an excellent compensation and benefits program. The salary range for this position is $178,140 - $285,012 annually with an anticipated starting salary between $196,839 - $231,576 depending on qualifications.
