The Job
San Bernardino County is recruiting for General Maintenance Mechanics who perform skilled work in a variety of fields in the maintenance and repair of buildings, mechanical and electrical systems, structures, equipment, and related facilities for a variety of County buildings throughout the County.
Current vacancies are in the Facilities Management Department . The eligible list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies throughout the County as they occur.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history & education check, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.
Physical: Incumbents must be able to reach, lift, and move heavy objects, either manually or with the aid of lifting devices, including cement bags, plywood, sheet rock, and other building supplies. Additionally, incumbents must be able to work in close quarters, outdoor areas, climb ladders, and work on roofs.
Environment: Incumbents may occasionally be exposed to hazardous chemicals, infectious materials, and radiation.
Travel: Travel throughout the county is required. Employees must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance.
Shift: Some positions require availability for night and swing shifts, weekends, and on-call, including holidays and in support of 24-hour facilities, as needed. Indicate availability on application.

Minimum Requirements
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of journey-level experience performing maintenance and repair of large commercial or industrial buildings in at least one (1) of the following trades: landscaping and/or irrigation, electrical, plumbing, heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC), or carpentry.
Note: Residential building experience and new construction experience are NOT considered qualifying.

COMPLETION OF APPRENTICESHIP: Successful completion of a structured, formal four (4) year trade apprenticeship program resulting in journey-level status in one (1) of the trades listed above. Indicate completion of apprenticeship, including provider and date, on the Supplemental Questionnaire. Be sure to include apprenticeship work experience in the work history section of your application.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will display dependability and experience with use of proper hand tools required to make needed repairs to buildings, irrigation, and equipment, demonstrating an emphasis on safety for self, fellow workers, and the public.
