    Salary Scale: $123,500 - $130,000 (Dependent upon qualifications)

    The College of Health and Human Development is one of nine Colleges in California State University, Northridge. The College of Health and Human Development (HHD) is composed of nine academic departments, eight community-focused centers, and engagement in the campus wide Institute. The mission and view of the College of Health and Human Development emphasizes health, well-being and the educating individuals and communities in choices that impact how individuals live.

    The College of Health and Human Development at California State University, Northridge offers fully accredited Bachelors' and Masters' degree programs in the departments of Child and Adolescent Development, Communication Disorders and Sciences, Environmental and Occupational Health, Family Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Recreation and Tourism Management. The College of Health and Human Development also offers a clinical doctorate in Physical Therapy, and began offering a clinical doctorate in the field of Audiology in the Fall of 2019. We have graduated over 38,000 students annually over the past several years from nearly 20 degree programs. Our programs span education, scholarship, and outreach services.     About the Department:

    The Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences has a three-dimensional mission incorporating teaching, research and service for the advancement of human potential in speech, voice, language and hearing. As part of a comprehensive university system dedicated to undergraduate and graduate instruction, teaching is always regarded as the first priority.

    The Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences offers an undergraduate degree in Audiology and, at the beginning the 2019-2020 academic year, began offering the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.). The Doctor of Audiology Program was accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) in February 2023. The Department also offers a B.A degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences, and M.S. degree in the discipline of Speech-Language Pathology, including an on-line M.S. degree program in speech-language pathology. Its speech-language pathology programs are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Department is one of the institution’s departments that are collectively accredited by the National Council on Accreditation in Teacher Education.     The Department and its offices, classrooms, laboratories and Speech Language and Hearing Center are housed in a 35,000 square foot, three-story facility. The audiology wing offers two complete audiology test suites, as well as labs for auditory electro-physiology (ABR and OAE), ENG and VAT, computerized platform posturography, a hearing aid dispensary, and an ear mold and real ear testing consultation rooms. Speech-language pathology facilities include 12 individual treatment rooms and 10 larger, group treatment spaces, all with direct observation and video recording capability. There are research spaces and newly acquired instrumentation for hearing science, speech science, swallowing, and related laboratories. Other facility features include a clinic business office to support 15,000 annual client visits for services in language, speech and hearing disorders, classrooms, clinical observation rooms and conference rooms with multi-media infrastructure.

    Position:

    The Department announces openings for one tenure-track appointment for an individual possessing an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in audiology, hearing and speech science, or closely related field, to teach in the undergraduate and doctoral programs in Audiology as well as undergraduate and graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology.

    In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Ph.D., from an accredited institution in audiology, hearing and speech science, or closely related field. Candidates in the process of completing a Doctoral degree will be considered, but degree must be conferred before August 20, 2025.
    • College or University-level teaching experience or potential to teach in-person, hybrid, and/or online courses.
    • Evidence of being active in research in Audiology, Hearing and Speech Science, or closely related field.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Evidence of effective engagement OR potential to engage with a diverse student body
    • Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
    • Experience creating a student-centered learning environment
    • Research/Lab experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds
    • Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring and teaching
    • Evidence for being active in research with a record of scholarly publications
    • Supervisory experience of interns, clinical fellows, other clinical training
    • Possession of, or being eligible to apply for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
    • Possession of, or being eligible to apply for the California Audiology licensure and/or hearing-aid dispensing license and holding good standing for the duration of appointment.
    • Strong preference will be given for individuals with evidence of recent clinical or research experience with Vestibular assessment, Auditory electrophysiology, or Tinnitus assessment/management.
    • Experience with teaching doctoral level students in Audiology, Hearing and Speech Science or related fields.
    • Demonstrate a commitment and ability to mentor and work with a diverse faculty population.
