    The Position: Assistant Tenure-Track Professor of Hydrology

    Position Starts: Fall 2025

    Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience. (Anticipated hiring range: $80,000 - $89,000 per year).

    Minimum Qualifications:

    The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a terminal degree in Hydrology or related environmental science or geoscience field. Candidates nearing completion of the terminal degree may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the degree must be met no later than the start date of the position.

    Responsibilities:

    Faculty in the department are enthusiastic about working hands-on with a diverse group of environmental science undergraduate and graduate students. They each have experience in practical applications of their scientific discipline.

    Experience with learning assessment techniques, instructional technology in the teaching-learning process, and roles of faculty in attracting and supporting student success are highly valued. Faculty in our department have the capability to seamlessly integrate aspects of the broader fields of geosciences, conservation, and natural resource management and use novel approaches to engage undergraduate and graduate students to confront local problems of Northern California as well as societal issues and global challenges related to water.

    This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching (lower and upper division undergraduate courses in the major, general education courses, graduate courses), scholarship (dissemination, grants, mentoring, etc.), and service (student advising, committee participation, community outreach, etc.). Teaching assignments are based upon the interests, and qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

    The Department:

    The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers B.S. degrees in Geology and Environmental Sciences as well as M.S. degrees in Environmental Sciences and Geosciences. The Department continues to grow and currently serves over 125 majors and over 10 graduate students. Faculty and students are actively involved in internal and external research grants and service contracts, and the University and College offer funding to support development of innovative student-learning techniques for both field and in-class activities. The Department is interdisciplinary with faculty having expertise and research interests in the areas of applied ecology, hydrology, biogeochemistry, atmospheric science, geomorphology, sedimentology, volcanology, paleontology, petrology, structural geology, and oceanography. The Department houses a variety of research-grade instruments and computer resources available to both faculty and students as many of our students regularly present their research at national and international conferences. Water is a critical resource both locally and regionally and our department’s involvement with local water agencies as well as various campus sustainability groups reflect our commitment to be leaders in water-related issues.
