    Henry S. Khanzadian Kazan Visiting Professor - Lecturer in Armenian Studies Program

    The Armenian Studies Program offers courses on Armenian history, Armenian language and literature, art and architecture, film, William Saroyan, the Genocide, and contemporary issues. Courses in Armenian history are also offered under the Department of History.

    The Armenian Studies Program supports the Armenian Students Organization, the student and program newspaper Hye Sharzhoom, and the Armenian Studies Program Lecture Series.

    The successful candidate will teach a course in Armenian Studies in the modern period (19th century or later) with an emphasis on the Armenian Genocide. Candidates should indicate the specific content they would propose to cover in this course by including a very brief outline. The visiting faculty member may teach more than one course.

    In addition, the Kazan Visiting Professor will give three public lectures on a single topic to be published thereafter as a monograph. Candidates should indicate their choice of three-lecture topic by title in their letter of application.

    The successful candidate may be expected to teach in a distance learning mode, and will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and college.

    Instructor Responsibility: Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306 , paragraph 2. Instructor are will be responsible for the preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class project, and midterm and final exams.

    Conditional Appointment

    Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.

    Salary Range

    Commensurate by experience within salary range placement. The salary ranges are established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers).

    The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Terminal degree is $6,221.00 - $13,224.00 per a month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range. Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per an academic term.

    Anticipated Semesters

    The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Appointments from the pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.
    • Multiple one semester appointments are being filled. An appointment will be for one semester only, applicant should indicate the order of preferred semesters for the appointment; Fall semesters are mid-August through late-December; Spring semesters are mid-January - late-May

      • Spring 2028.

    Appointees will be required to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States (Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for Temporary Faculty positions).

    Required Qualifications:

    Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.): An earned doctorate with a record of publication in Armenian Studies, Armenian History, or related field.

    Experience :
    A record of distinguished publication and research in modern Armenian Studies A professional career which has been in university teaching or research in Armenian Studies, Armenian History, or a closely related field Ability commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
