The Public Health Services Division of the Health and Social Services Division is currently recruiting for a Public Health Nutritionist to work within the Nutrition Services Program.

The Public Health Nutrition Services program emphasizes community-wide health promotion and disease prevention. Nutrition Services staff develop systems that address nutrition needs throughout the life cycle. Nutrition Services staff are advocates for the needs of vulnerable groups, particularly low-income women in their child-bearing years, young children, and individuals with acute or chronic diseases. THE POSITION

As an experienced Public Health Nutritionist, you will work with the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition program which helps low-income pregnant women, mothers with infants, infants and young children eat well, be active, and stay healthy. The WIC program provides client-centered nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy food and linkages to health care and other important community resources.

Public Health Nutritionists provide nutritional consultative services with clients; plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate a program of nutrition education services for a target population. Public Health Nutritionists are responsible for providing direct nutrition services for Public Health clients participating in various programs. Public Health Nutritionists initially work under general supervision, progressing to direction as the employee becomes able to independently formulate nutrition education plans, consulting with medical providers and developing strategies for reaching a high-risk population.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience: One year working as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required from an accredited college or university, in nutrition or dietetics. A Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or Public Health or related field is desirable.

Special requirements:

Incumbent must possess certification as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Certification as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is also required. Candidates who fail to submit their transcripts or degree and certification by the deadline will be disqualified from the recruitment.PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: Candidates who attended a college or university that is accredited by a foreign or non-U.S. accrediting agency must have their educational units evaluated by an educational evaluation service. VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DEADLINE. Applicants who have a service-connected disability must also submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service-connected reasons.

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general under conditions discharge shall receive five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans rated at not less than 30% disability shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran’s preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
