As our Hospitality Coordinator (Administrative Support Coordinator II), you’ll be the friendly face at the front desk, making a difference every day in the Office of Housing Administration and Residential Education Office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Front Desk Management: Be the first point of contact, handling inquiries with professionalism and warmth.
  • Housing Tours: Coordinate and lead engaging tours for prospective residents.
  • Client Liaison: Work closely with clients to arrange meeting space rentals and events.
  • Office Supplies: Keep our office running smoothly by managing inventory and supplies.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a team of 20+ student assistants. You’ll be responsible for assigning duties, scheduling work hours, and providing training on current procedures.
  • Problem Solving: Tackle a variety of issues each week, using your creativity and knowledge to interpret policies and assist clients effectively.

Position Information
  • Full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Division of Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for ensuring a safe, productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure and human resources at San Diego State University.

The Office of Housing Administration (OHA) is a self-funded operation responsible for planning, providing, and administering housing operations, services, and facilities with over 100 employees and over 150 student assistants with an annual operating budget exceeding $136,000,000. OHA provides housing for over 8,500 students in 25 communities with over 2 million sq. ft. of residential facilities. The OHA manages the operation of residence halls, apartments, and conference and event spaces. The OHA supports the educational mission of the Residential Education Office (REO) while providing business operations for all housing-related functions in support of a quality environment to enhance the student educational experience.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

  • Ability to work with students, staff, and the public regarding residence hall-related issues.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, be organized, and have the ability to process information quickly.
  • Be courteous and possess good listening skills with the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and be motivated to work in a diverse environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or related field is preferred.
  • One-year front desk/reception experience is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,142 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
