The Position

Transportation Technicians perform a variety of technical duties related to traffic and roadway characteristics on State highways; install traffic monitoring devices; perform minor repairs on traffic control and monitoring equipment, and compile and maintain detailed records and information.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

This position is located within the Planning/Traffic Information Division, in Las Vegas Nevada. As a lead person, collect Automatic Vehicle Classification (AVC) data. Responsible for keeping field notes, documenting unusual traffic characteristics, and documenting any failures of monitoring equipment. Schedule statewide traffic control for AVC installation and removal. Install and remove traffic control as required. The incumbent must keep abreast of updates to the Traffic Monitoring System (TMS), Traffic Monitoring Guide (TMG), traffic monitoring devices, field manuals, data collection schedules, field tickets, and vendor software. This position must prioritize, schedule, delegate, and monitor work assignments for subordinate personnel. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of technical experience in collecting and recording data related to traffic and/or roadways; OR one year of experience as a Transportation Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Additional Position Criteria Describe your experience with transportation data collection, processing, and analysis. Identify the position(s) where the experience was gained and the number of years. Describe your experience utilizing traffic data software. Describe your experience with vehicle class data collection. Describe your experience, including the number of years of collecting or processing traffic data. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
