A Skilled Trades Technician II - Irrigator job is available with the City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department Athletics division. We are looking for a dedicated and dependable to perform the design, installation, repair and maintenance of irrigation systems in accordance with industry standards and adherence to established policies, procedures and permitting requirements. The Park & Recreation Department maintains more than 200 parks and public spaces citywide as well as providing recreational activities and educational programming that makes Fort Worth a great place to live, work and play.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED supplemented by specialized training in the landscape irrigation field plus (2) years of related irrigation experience.
  • The position requires the candidate to be a licensed irrigator.
  • Possession of a Valid Class C Driver's License.
  • Must pass drug test and physical

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess Class A CDL. (CDL License Not Needed for the Functions of our position)
  • Experience on a backhoe and heavy excavation equipment.

The Skilled Trades Technician II - Irrigator job responsibilities include:
  • Candidate must be able to manage computerized irrigation controllers, install/replace pumps for water features and pond systems, purchase and inventory irrigation materials and supplies, perform mathematical calculations and obtain bids, quotes and estimates for irrigation repair costs. A strong work ethic with a commitment to quality is required, must demonstrate safe work habits, ability to follow instruction with little or no supervision, good organizational skills, ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and willingness to work in all kinds of weather and overtime when required
  • Successful candidate must be able to receive instructions, read and design as built irrigation plans, process work orders for the job, plan details of working procedure, tools and material requirements, supervise unskilled personnel, maintain appropriate records and write reports as needed, keep equipment, assigned vehicle and work area clean and orderly.
  • Candidate must be able to test and maintain field irrigation systems. Be able to learn and become proficient in ICCpro control systems.

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demand

Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects
