The Position

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Clinical Mental Health Counselor 2 (MHT) in Las Vegas for Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC), a 54-bed psychiatric hospital that provides mental health treatment for children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years old. DWTC's mission is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values, and ways of thinking through education, therapeutic treatment, and appropriate medical and mental health services. The MHT's role is critical to the operations of DWTC. Duties assigned are significant for compliance with regulatory entities. The MHT works directly with the Senior Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Caseworkers, Psychiatric Nurse, and Psychologist, and provides direct care services to patients, assists in all admissions, provides individual, group and family sessions, determines continued stay requirements; The MHT is a major contributor in the Trans-disciplinary Treatment Team meetings, determines service needs and presents program and reviews treatment plan and progress with the patient, parent/guardian, and ensures clinical aspects of all discharge planning. The provision of these services is critical to patient care as it relates to ensuring comprehensive therapeutic case with the focus of integrating the patient back into the community. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above. Special Requirements Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
