What You'll Be Doing

Join #TeamWake as an Occupational Health Nurse for Wake County Human Services (WCHS) Occupational Health and Infection Prevention team.

This is a permanent position and is benefits eligible. As an Occupational Health Nurse, you will become a member of the team that supports the primary mission of providing a safe and healthy work environment for WCHS employees through the following duties:
  • Facilitating employee medical surveillance programs mandated by local, state, and federal agencies related to occupational safety and health. Participating in the review and revision of essential protocols and procedures related to these efforts.
  • Participating in new hire reviews to determine necessary level of service inclusion in the Occupational Health Program and onboarding
  • Participate in post exposure care under the Bloodborne Pathogens Program and post exposure care including shared afterhours call
  • Review and maintain employee immunization status including annual Flu vaccinations
  • Participate in maintenance of the Respiratory Protection Program
  • Participate in the oversight of TB testing/annual screening for at risk employees
  • Participation and assistance with the ongoing efforts of the Infection Prevention and Control Program
  • Be available for consultation with the Epidemiology Team; County Risk Management Team; Quality Assurance Team; Building Safety and Incident Review teams and other county governmental agencies as requested
  • Participate in monitoring the occupational health email and or phone messages to provide assessment and guidance for county staff with COVID-19 related travel or exposure issues

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Five years of job-related experience
  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse as issued by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • Valid driver’s license and a “safe” driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor Degree or Master’s Degree preferred
  • Five years of job-related experience in occupational health or related discipline


How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse as issued by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • A valid driver’s license and a “safe” driving record may be required
  • Board Certified in Occupational Health Nursing
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple requests and deadlines
  • Possesses strong triage and case management skills as well as ability to complete tasks with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of Public Health, Occupational Safety and Health, and Infection Prevention
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, standards, and best practices as they are applied to workplace injury/illness prevention and infection prevention
