Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Student Financial Services, this position performs a wide range of technical system management functions in support of the operations of Student Accounts and University Cashiers Office. This position independently performs assigned duties and projects through completion. The position involves participating in the development, alteration, implementation, and evaluation of the Student Financial Services’ procedures and policies. Assigned duties for this position are technical in nature, and support a variety of financial activities, including but not limited to, tuition charges, housing and dining charges, fee waivers, accounts receivables and collection activities, and may also include duties that cross several programs or specialties within Student Financial Services.

Department Summary

As a section of the University Financial Services (UFS) Department, Student Financial Services is responsible for charging, collection, receipt, and reporting of all student fees in accordance with state, CSU, and University policies. Student Financial Services includes the operations of Student Accounts and University Cashiers. In addition to responsibility for student fees, Student Financial Services is responsible for ensuring the proper receipting and safeguarding of payments and deposits made to the University, administration of payroll and student refund disbursements, and accounting for student’s financial activities in accordance with federal, state, CSU, and University policies. As part of UFS, Student Financial Services plays an integral role within the University’s finance group and has a direct impact on the general ledger and financial statements. Because of this relationship, Student Financial Services is responsible for providing critical accounting information for use in other finance areas and must also interact with other finance areas in order to gather accounting information, perform reconciliations, and resolve problems.

Student Financial Services staff must have significant depth and breadth of knowledge not only within their areas of expertise, but also within the overall activities and operation of the office. This cross-functional knowledge is required due to the intricate and inter-related nature of all Student Financial Services processes and is necessary in order to provide accurate and proper administration of the payments and accounts, and to enable the staff to effectively communicate information about complex account activities to students, parents, and staff.

Key Qualifications
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including on-line systems, word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
  • Demonstrated experience in record keeping including knowledge of principles and practices of accounting, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of and skill in operational and fiscal analysis and statistical techniques.
  • Skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Skill in research, development and evaluation of complex fiscal policies and programs.

Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Three years of technical or administrative experience. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $70,000 - $88,000 Per Year

Classification Range: Minimum: $52,548 - $95,064 Per Year
