    Undergraduate Psychiatric/Mental Health Pool

    The School of Nursing at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an on-going basis for our Psych/Mental Health pool of part-time lecturers. Clinical days, hours, and clinical sites vary within San Diego County and Riverside County.

    This is a Pool Ad for the following courses:
    • NURS 261: Practicum: Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing
    • NURS 361: Practicum: Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing

    Applicants will use effective face-to-face instruction and assessment techniques to promote students’ successful achievement of course learning competencies.

    The clinical course instructor is responsible to prepare for and teach the clinical course with general supervision of the course coordinator. Duties include but are not limited to:
    Teaching/Role Model Provide instruction, as directed by the course coordinator and consistent with the syllabus, in a clear and engaging manner that is appropriate to student experience and expertise, to assist them in meeting course learning outcomes and completing required clinical hours. Provide hands-on demonstration of nursing care as needed, and ensure care is consistent with clinical agency, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidelines (California BRN, CCNE, TJC). Create topics of discussion and education information for post conferences, in coordination with the Course Coordinator, syllabus and corresponding didactic course. Model professional nursing behavior and communication at all times. Complete weekly evaluation of student’s clinical practice and document both positive progression and areas for improvement. Utilize SoN resources to ensure student success. Notify the Course Coordinator if a student is not progressing as needed. Assist students to master course material by being available through office hours and by helping them to access other School of Nursing resources including, but not limited to, web-based technology and open/practice laboratory sessions. Utilize computer and application-based technologies as required to complete instructional and assessment duties. Includes using the assigned Cougar Course. Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accord with the university and school requirements and deadlines. Communicate effectively with course coordinator, colleagues, laboratory staff, and/or clinical agency personnel to resolve issues or concerns; work effectively as part of the overall faculty team demonstrating positive and collaborative interpersonal relations to meet student needs. Attend faculty meetings. Complete all SoN orientation requirements and respond to administrative requests and in-service requirements in a timely manner. Clinical &/or Simulation Supervision Collaborate with clinical agency personnel to arrange site orientations and clinical experiences, to ensure compliance with all agency and other regulatory requirements. Prepare clinical experiences at assigned clinical site prior to student arrival to facilitate student learning and respect clinical facility norms and operations. Provide students with appropriate learning experiences whenever possible; revise clinical assignments as needed, based on student progression. Supervise students in successfully completing course requirements, including demonstrating, modeling, and assisting with the full range of patient care situations. Collaborate with Simulation team as directed during students' simulation/standardized patient experience. Maintain professional practice knowledge base and skills needed to instruct learners in contemporary nursing practice for assigned course. Other duties Other duties may include assisting the SoN with course and/or program revision/development, assisting with research, and participating in committees as an active member of the faculty. Complete annual performance evaluation per university requirements.
    Minimum qualifications:
    • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
    • BRN Faculty requirement: Psych/Mental Health nursing work experience within the last 5 years. Direct patient care experience which can be met by: (A) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency.
    • State licensure by California Board of Registered Nursing
    • Meet the School of Nursing ’ s requirements regarding current immunizations and CPR licensure
    • Per California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

    Preferred qualifications:
    • A doctorate in Nursing (DNP, PhD, or EdD with emphasis on Nursing Education)
    • Experience teaching Psych/Mental Health clinical course.
    • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

    Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
    • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,836 - $6,240 per full-time month

    The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:
    • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,007 - $6,359 per full-time month
    • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $5,925 - $12,594 per full-time month

    The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

    Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15th.
