Job Description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Interim Director, UP Operations and receiving work lead from the Benefits Services Lead, the Benefits Services Analyst performs duties under general supervision, but works independently to provide benefits support for all university employees. Develops, plans and implements benefit programs, guidelines and participates in special projects in support of the Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform the full range of work related to the administration of employee benefits, leave and retirement programs.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve benefit related problems ranging from routine to moderate complexity.
  • Maintain data in automated information systems and generate reports as requested.
  • Prepare and process various benefit plan documents and information. Maintain confidential employee benefit files and records.
  • Certify pertinent information in MyCalPERS.
  • Maintain and key data into PIMS for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for all employees.
  • Establish and maintain business relationships with various vendors, insurance carriers, and State agencies utilized to investigate benefit related discrepancies.
  • Interact with campus employees daily to resolve a variety of benefit related issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide benefits expertise and services to retiring university employees.
  • Work with third party administrators and insurance carriers to resolve employee benefit issues. Participate in the new employee benefits orientation process.
  • Prepare and or assist in all aspects of the annual Open Enrollment period as well as campus Benefits Fair. Participate in benefits program related projects on a seasonal and or cyclical basis as assigned.

  • Ability to define problems, establish facts, collect data, draw valid conclusions, and to effectively present information when responding to questions from internal and external customers
  • Ability to establish and maintain business relationships with providers
  • Ability to interpret technical procedures or regulations related to typical health plan and leave programs Ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence and reports
  • Ability to learn and establish expertise with MyCALPERS, PIMS, and PeopleSoft HR software Ability to handle multiple work priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with employees and external agencies Ability to quickly learn and apply a variety of state, federal, CSU, and SJSU policies and procedures


Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training
  • Administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs


Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of progressively responsible full-time benefits administration or employee leave program administration; Experience in benefits administration in the CSU system or any other benefits administration experience; Experience with PIMS, PeopleSoft/Oracle, MyCALPERS databases; Experience delivering presentations, training and orientations; Two years of customer service where handling of sensitive and confidential matters was required


Compensation

Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Nonexempt
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,400/month - $5,600/month
CSU Salary Range: $3,694/month - $7,131/month
