Position Title Wildlife Conservation Technician I (S), Position Number 60034132, Grade NC05Agency Overview The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is a state agency dedicated to conserving and sustaining North Carolina's fish and wildlife resources through research, scientific management, and public engagement. The Agency employs approximately 700 full‑time staff and 100 seasonal staff across the state, overseeing programs such as the Game Land Program, access maintenance, and grant planning.Division Overview The Land & Water Access Division (LAWA) administers the Game Land Program and maintains access and navigation facilities across the state. The Division is responsible for habitat management, research and survey support, and infrastructure maintenance on state lands and waterways.Job Overview The Wildlife Conservation Technician I will conduct fish and wildlife habitat management, research, surveys, and infrastructure management on state‑owned lands and waterways. Responsibilities includeRestoring and improving fish and wildlife habitats for endangered and game species.Providing hunting opportunities for sportsmen.Managing wildlife openings.Creating early successional habitats.Restoring altered ecosystems.Supporting research and survey efforts that aid long‑term management and species identification.Prescribed burning.Maintaining and renovating boating access areas, public fishing areas, and navigation aids on waterways.Operating heavy equipment such as farm tractors, crawler tractors, mowing trucks, and related machinery.Maintaining roads, dikes, trails, game‑land boundaries, docks, piers, navigation aids, and parking areas.This position requires a modified schedule and may involve night work, overnight travel, weekends, or holidays.Location: WRC Williamston Depot, Williamston, NC (Martin County).Qualifications Required educational and experience qualifications:Associate Degree in wildlife or fisheries management or construction management from an accredited institution.Two years of experience managing wildlife or fisheries resources or operating heavy equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Commercial Driver's License (Class A) and NC Pesticide Applicators license (must be obtained within one year if not already held).Knowledge and skills:Understanding of wildlife, fish, habitat, land, forest, and agricultural management.Ability to identify wildlife, plants, and fish.Experience operating and maintaining agricultural, forestry, heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, ATVs, UTVs, boats, chainsaws, welders, radios, pumps, fire equipment, power tools, hand tools, and shop tools.Reading and interpreting construction plans and blueprints.Use of computer for data entry.Experience in construction and equipment supply management.Salary range: $33,902 - $59,327.Physical & Special Requirements Primarily outdoors, all weather conditions.Manual labor, lifting up to 50 pounds daily.Must wear safety equipment and follow safety regulations.Pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing; background check.EEO Statement The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.#J-18808-Ljbffr
