The Kentucky Department of Corrections seeks motivated individuals ready to join the correctional team. Correctional Officers maintain safety and control within correctional institutions by working collaboratively to uphold rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.ResponsibilitiesMaintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security for inmates, staff, and the general public.Supervise inmate activities in housing units, dining areas, recreation, and work areas.Attend to medical, visitation, personal property, and recreational needs of inmates.Inspect and patrol grounds for contraband, unauthorized personnel, and other security risks.Complete required reports and daily logs.Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.The Ideal CandidateStrong communication skills.Observational skills.Team player mindset.Attention to detail.Ability to work under pressure.All applicants must meet all federal and state laws applicable to the carrying, use, and possession of firearms and ammunition at the time of employment.Although medical cannabis has been legalized in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, employees in this position are prohibited from using medical cannabis due to other applicable state or federal laws. Maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment.Working ConditionsWork environment is hazardous due to interaction with convicted felons or juvenile detainees.
