Position Overview Correctional Officer – Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (Job Code 2603056). The role focuses on maintaining custody, control, and rehabilitation of juveniles in a secure setting.Compensation Pay Grade 10. Base salary $39,127.68 annually. Locality Premium $5.228 per hour. Shift Premiums: $2.13 per hour from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., $1.13 per hour from 11:01 p.m. to 6:59 a.m. Weekend Premium $2.13 per hour. Holiday Premium $2.13 per hour.Employment Type Executive Branch • Full Time • Eligible for Overtime Pay • 40.0 hours per week.Responsibilities Maintain custody and control of juveniles in a custodial security setting or perform related special assignments.Supervise and monitor activities of detained juveniles, ensuring a safe and secure environment.Take required actions during emergency situations and stand watch in each unit.Assist juveniles in interpersonal skill development.Provide routine support services, check premises, and ensure safety of juveniles.Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and trainings.Maintain the booking program to record youth behaviors and interactions with courts and family visits.Oversee juveniles during program functions at detention centers.Complete incident reports and other documentation as needed according to detention center rules.Assist juveniles with complaint procedures.Transport juveniles as required.Additional Information • The position is essential and designated for mandatory operations (no adverse weather leave).• Overtime and shift work may be required.• Successful completion of the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy (two weeks on‑job plus four weeks at the academy in Louisville, Kentucky) is required. Overnight lodging and travel are provided by the department.• Applicants must pass a physical examination and meet all essential job functions; costs are billed through the employee's health insurance with relevant co‑pays reimbursed by the department.Minimum Requirements Education: High school graduate.Experience: None required.Special Requirements: Must be at least twenty years of age, possess a valid driver's license, and complete the Training Academy within six months of employment.
