This position is located in Custer, SD. Relocation or commute required.Custer County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for certified, full-time Deputy Sheriffs. The role is ideal for dedicated law enforcement professionals who value community service, teamwork, and proactive policing in one of the most scenic areas of South Dakota.This position offers a starting wage of up to $26.32 per hour for certified officers, plus a $1.00 per hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. County benefits include paid holidays, vacation (earned at 10 hours per month), sick leave (earned at 8 hours per month), employee health insurance with an option for a Health Savings Account, SDRS retirement, as well as dental, vision, and additional life insurance options. Deputies are assigned individual patrol vehicles, and the department provides duty gear and uniforms.Deputies are responsible for enforcing local and state laws, preventing and suppressing crime and accidents, serving legal processes, promoting public safety through community policing, and performing other duties as assigned. The Custer County Sheriff's Office also provides contract patrols for the United States Forest Service.Custer County spans over 1,500 square miles and borders several South Dakota counties.
