OverviewThe Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is the 3rd largest state prison system with over 150 facilities and more than 22,000 staff. A correctional officer at FDC is part of a dedicated team focused on public safety throughout Florida. Career advancement opportunities progress from entry‑level Correctional Officer to Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and Colonel, with management positions including Assistant Wardens and Wardens. Officers may also join special teams such as Rapid Response, Crisis Response, Interdiction, K‑9, and other specialty units.Compensation$22 hourly as a Trainee , $23.14 hourly as a Certified Correctional Officer .Minimum QualificationsBe at least 18 years of age (no maximum age restriction)Possess a high school diploma or equivalentPossess a valid driver's licenseNot have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, nor have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
