ResponsibilitiesA Deputy Sheriff is responsible for general law enforcement work required by the Sheriff's Office. This includes keeping the peace, serving the public, protecting the lives, rights and property of all within Halifax County. Duties include taking calls, investigating complaints and criminal activity, traffic enforcement, serving civil and criminal process, developing suspects, arresting perpetrators, providing security for courts, transporting prisoners, and other special assignments.Deputy Sheriff applies good, sound judgment and discretion while executing tasks. Work performed under direct supervision of assigned lieutenant and sergeant. Must work 12‑hour rotating shifts including holidays and weekends.QualificationsGraduation from high school or GED. Must be at least 21 years of age, a United States citizen, possess a valid North Carolina driver's license, and be willing to obtain certification as a law‑enforcement officer in accordance with the North Carolina Sheriff's Training and Standards Commission.Official completed Halifax County Application for Employment (HR1107) and college transcripts required. All application portions must be completed and submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the closing date; postmarks will not be accepted.
