Serve in a support role to Juvenile Detention and Post-Adjudication Institutional staff by escorting detained juveniles from intra and inter-locations in a safe and secure manner. De-escalate and counsel volatile and physically aggressive juveniles; maintain secure custody of detained residents; prevent escapes, assaults and misconduct by residents; conduct search and property inventory of new in-custody referrals; conduct dress in and release procedures; conduct personal and facility searches; screen and monitor visitation; counsel and assign disciplinary actions; receive and correctly distribute confidential resident information; assist with inter-departmental transportation and document all non-routine events. Conduct various housekeeping duties including resident laundry.
High School diploma or GED. Two (2) years experience in a related field. One (1) year of experience working with children. Ability to be certified as a Texas Juvenile Detention Officer. Ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR and Non-Violent restraint. Valid driver license and automobile liability insurance. College degree may substitute for experience requirement. Knowledge of State Juvenile Detention Standards; understanding of adolescent behavior and facility security. If hired, proof of education required at new hire processing.
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, stand, reach, hold and lift. Incumbent works primarily inside a locked secure facility and encounters potentially violent and hostile residents and visitors. May also be exposed to contagious medical diseases.
