Perry County Conservation District is providing the opportunity for an internship for 12 weeks between May and August. The intern will learn the role and program areas of Conservation Districts and will assist in field and office work. Applicants should be college students majoring in the field of biology, environmental science, geology, GIS, forestry, or related field.Primary Duties May Include:Meeting with county cooperators at their farmsInspecting earth disturbance construction sitesInstalling BMPs such as riparian buffersData entry of natural resources informationAssisting in natural resources mapping and GIS coverageAssisting in surveying and layout of conservation practicesStrong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple priorities, and willingness to learnEffective communication, both verbally and in writing, to a wide range of individuals and groups is essentialAbility to operate a variety of office equipment including computer equipment and a variety of software programsAbility to work outdoors, negotiate uneven and rough terrain, sometimes during inclement weatherAbility to function independently, have flexibility, and to work effectively with clients, co-workers, and othersRequirements:Interested candidates should currently be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, preferably with an environmental or agricultural emphasis. Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.Compensation is $16.73/hr. and a positive working environment.
