OverviewThe Emergency Medical Dispatcher performs a wide variety of activities related to the request for Emergency Medical Services (Ambulance) from in hospital departments and from outside members of the community. This position assures that there is someone dedicated to answering of the E911 communications lines. The Communications Center is operated on a 24 hour, 7 days a week format and the hospital's dedicated emergency number. The Emergency Medical Dispatcher provides dispatch services for the hospital in the receipt and processing of requests for assistance. The Dispatcher creates and documents on the incident log all communications and processes a time log. The dispatcher also processes the initial information for filing ambulance service charges/insurance and enters data in the hospital automated computer system. The Dispatcher takes requests and assigns staff for other services requested by hospital staff, in Emergency Dept. etc.ResponsibilitiesDispatches emergency calls to closest appropriate unit utilizing the CAD tools to access system status. Monitor various radio frequencies to keep apprised of developing situations. Operates two-way radio and/or other communications equipment to copy calls to other public safety agenciesand medical first responders. Read and effectively interpret maps and information from a computer screen in order to determine locations andprovide directions. Enters, updates, and retrieves information from a variety of computer systems. Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to all other individuals or groups requiringnotification. Scan computer screens, and contact field units in order to determine units available for dispatch. Knowledge of and ability to operate computer-based telephone system. Demonstrates faithfulness in work attendance and punctuality Exhibits sufficient multi-tasking to accomplish required time management of all activities Works diligently to provide excellent customer service by being calm, polite, and sympathetic.QualificationsEducation RequiredHS GEDLicense, Certification and/or RegistrationCertification in Emergency Medical Dispatch within one year of employmentMOAB#J-18808-Ljbffr
