    Dispatcher Position

    The Dispatcher position manages and directs the workflow between load pullers and truck drivers in order to meet scheduled commitments determined by salespeople for their customer. Oversees accuracy, completeness, and condition of deliveries and returns, protecting the inventory assets of the company. Ensures truck drivers are properly trained, and compliant with all DOT requirements, and operate with in a safety conscious environment both at the lumberyard and on the road. Ensures proper truck maintenance is performed.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: None

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Actively manages the truck drivers' workflow using two-way radio. Routes all deliveries to meet committed scheduled timeslots, while attempting to minimize delivery expense costs through coordination.
    • Determines space requirements and position of shipment on trucks, following legal load for loads limits according to established weight limits within the states of operations.
    • Ensures truck drivers are in possession of all required paperwork for loads transported to and from the lumberyard, including the shipping copy to be left at the job site.
    • Ensures truck drivers perform daily truck inspections according to DOT regulations, including the completion and filing of necessary paperwork.
    • Schedules preventive maintenance within the proper timeframe, in conjunction with daily business activity.
    • Arranges for emergency roadside repairs and tows.
    • Directs all load puller and truck driver workflow in support of scheduling commitments communicated from customer to outside/inside salespeople.
    • Ensures loads are strapped according to DOT regulations and are properly flagged for transport.
    • Responsible for ensuring trucks and cabs are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion, and that the truck drivers present a good company image when delivering merchandise to customers.
    • Develop solid, positive working relationships with sales personnel and customers.
    • Establishes daily communication with outside/inside salespeople, keeping them advised of any changes in status of their customer's deliveries.
    • Ensures Correct, Complete and On-time delivery of material to customers.
    • Assists Yard Foreman and Yard Manager with duties that impact the overall performance of the Yard. Some of those duties may include: receiving and general accounting for materials coming and going from the branch, payroll processing, inventory control, etc.
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements:

    Required Skills and Abilities:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills to prepare and assign routes.
    • Strong leadership skills to ensure drivers compliance with direction and assignments.
    • Basic understanding of geographical area and mapping programs to facilitate efficient routing.
    • Proficient with or able to quickly learn dispatch and recordkeeping systems.
    • Ability to work at a fast pace and under pressure.
