    Job Description

    The Fire and Rescue Department at Saint Michael's College invites applications for Fire Chief.The College is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to lead campus Fire & Rescue operations, ensuring a high standard of fire protection for the college and surrounding community. This role provides guidance and support to active student members, oversees all aspects of fire unit training, and maintains comprehensive pre-planning for emergency response. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (HIPAA, NFPA, infection control, occupational safety, etc.) and oversee quality assurance for incident reporting. Additionally, this position serves as a key liaison to local fire departments, mutual aid systems, and partner agencies, representing the unit within the regional response network.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Provide support as needed on duty schedule
    • Training leadership for membership, drivers, and equipment operation
    • Establish and maintain training requirements for all personnel
    • Support student leadership in respective leadership roles
    • Oversees accurate documentation encompassing all department functions
    • Collaborate with Rescue Unit Chief on financial matters including budgets, expenditures, and billing
    • Collaborate with Rescue Unit Chief on risk management including maintaining operating guidelines, insurance, and safety regulatory compliance
    • Sees the value of cultural, ethnic, gender, and other individual differences in people. Helps to create an environment of learning about, valuing, encouraging, and supporting differences
    • Seeks different points of view and leverages diverse perspectives in group processes and decision-making. Checks own views against the views of others
    • Supports fair treatment and equal opportunity for all. Listens to and objectively considers the ideas/input of others. Respects the talents and contributions of all individuals
    • Support Rescue Unit Chief as needed
    • Support Unit Captains with personnel matters and discipline
    • Community Outreach and Public Relations
    • Fire Prevention
    • Alumni Relations
    • Collaborate with campus Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and Director of Public of Safety

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Operational and leadership experience in Fire and Emergency Services
    • Alumni of Saint Michael's College Fire and Rescue preferred

    Required Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements:
    • EMT
