Position Summary
Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is looking to add a Marine Cadet to their team to assist law enforcement with enforcement of marine laws on county waterways and assists boaters with matters relating to boating safety.
$17.39 - $23.36 per hour*
*Lincoln County follows Oregon Pay Equity laws in reviewing education and experience for wage offer.
Only applications that contain most recent five (5) year work experience or explanation of gaps will be reviewed
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
Patrol by boat all navigable waterways in the county . Enforce all water safety laws and regulations:
Investigate thefts and vandalism of boats, marine equipment, and facilities .
Maintain records and prepare reports necessary for the completion of all investigations.
Take an active part in all crime prevention related to job functions.
Operate marine equipment, boats and other equipment as required.
Appear in court as a witness as required.
Conduct boat safety equipment checks and issues warnings and violation citations:
Assist and inform the public including answering inquiries regarding laws/ordinances.
Provide general information related to marine activity.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Education Level
High School Diploma / GED
Minimum Experience Level
Specifics: Experience in dealing with the public.
Substitution Note: Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the job as determined by the County.
Driver's License
Oregon Driver's License required
Specifics: Must obtain within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge of:
Pertinent federal , state, and local laws and ordinances.
Water safety practices.
Skill or ability to:
Reach correct conclusions, and to understand and follow oral and written orders .
Operate motorized boats and related equipment
Swim at least 100 yards.
Convey information, ideas, and facts both orally and in writing to supervisors, colleagues, and individuals, inside and outside the county, using language and a format the audience will best understand.
Utilize computers and other technology to communicate in written and verbal forms (e.g., word processing, texts, emails, spreadsheets, department-specific software).
Effectively relate well with others, including supervisors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the county. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and working to maintain constructive working relationships.
Take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work. Show up to work on time, and follows instructions, policies, and procedures. Meet productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedules.
