This position involves receiving and investigating complaints filed by Hoke County residents under the Leash Law and Dangerous Dog Ordinance and possible violations of other local and state laws; providing animal control services within the county including interviewing bite victims, trapping or capturing stray, diseased or bothersome animals; collecting stray, feral, dangerous or injured animals and transporting them to Animal Control Facility; preparing detailed reports of incidents investigated and actions taken; and giving testimony in administrative hearings or court of law. The officer will work evening shift (12:00 PM to 9:00 PM) Monday – Friday, ON Call Saturday and Sunday and after Hours.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Working knowledge of local and state animal control laws and regulations and ability to interpret and apply provisions of Hoke County's Leash Law and Dangerous Dog Ordinance. Working knowledge of principles and practices of pursuing and apprehending animals.Must be able to handle, control and lift dogs or other animals weighing up to 100 pounds. Ability to write detailed reports of animal capture and incident investigations. Ability to speak/understand Spanish a plus.Minimum Education and Experience:Graduation from high school or equivalent education; one year experience as an animal control officer, security officer or related law enforcement role.Special Requirements:Must possess valid North Carolina driver's license and have good driving record; must pass criminal history background check; may be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
