    Clerk Position

    The Clerk position performs a variety of general clerical work in support of the organizational unit to which assigned; provides word processing and data entry support; and to provide general information and assistance to staff and the public. This position entails a shiftwork schedule and may be subject to graveyard rotations.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Acceptable Experience and Education High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least two (2) years of office or clerical experience; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certificates and Licenses Required depending on area assigned National Crime Index Computer (NCIC)/Texas Crime Computer Index Computer (TCIC) certification; Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.

    Typical Duties

    Assists and responds to requests for information from staff and the public in person or by phone, provides basic information on department and assigned program policies and procedures; Assists with issues, receives types and processes various applications, reports, permits, licenses and other forms; Types, scans, enters, records, proofreads and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, reports, memos and statistical charts from rough draft, or verbal instruction, may compose routine correspondence; Performs various clerical duties on a computer which may include data processing, entering data into a spreadsheet or database program; Performs routine system back-up duties, runs computer reports as requested, processes department reports; Maintains a variety of statistical records, checks and tabulates statistical data, prepares routine statistical reports; Performs a wide variety of routine clerical work including sorting, filing, copying, billing, verifying, recording information on records and sending delinquent notices when necessary; Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail; Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

    Additional Information

    Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. Maintains a safe and healthy work place environment. May be required to travel to other Sheriff's Office branches when assigned or at times, on very short notice. May be required to work holidays, shift work, weekends. As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor. Organizational Relationships Reports to: Designee Assigned by Sheriff's Office Directs: This is a non-supervisory position Other: Has frequent contact with other county employees, vendors, federal, state, and city agencies, law enforcement, and the general public
