    SummaryThe Supervisory Orthotist‑Prosthetist will have the exciting opportunity to open a new VA medical center and start on a new lab in a VA outpatient Clinic. The incumbent oversees, manages, and carries out clinical and laboratory work related to providing prosthetic and orthotic care to patients with disabilities in the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville - KY.QualificationsUnited States citizenship (Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy)English language proficiencyOrthotists, prosthetists, or orthotist/prosthetists must be proficient in spoken and written as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d)Education: A bachelor's degree or higher in orthotics and prosthetics from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited programOR a bachelor's degree or higher in any major with a post‑graduate orthotics or prosthetics certificate from a CAAHEP accredited programOR a foreign education; graduates must have proof of a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (or foreign equivalent) with a specialization in orthotics and prostheticsBoard certification by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC) or the Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certification (BOC) as an orthotist‑prosthetist or orthotist/prosthetistGrade determinations: must meet the GS‑13 requirements, including one year of experience equivalent to a GS‑12 Orthotist/Prosthetist and significant involvement in treatment plan development for complex conditionsDemonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities: knowledge of regulatory requirements (ABC, BOC, NCOPE, IAOP, AAOP, JCAHO, CMS, OSHA, etc.) and administrative functions (budget, inventory, space planning, National Prosthetic Patient Database, Prosthetic National Software package, CPRS, DSS)Ability to analyze data and provide reports using HCPC codes and other patient database information to managementAbility to serve as a consultant on emerging technologies, complex cases, and policy changesAbility to supervise if the assignment requires itPreferred: Accreditation by the American Board of Opticianry (ABOC)Physical requirements: predominantly sedentary work with occasional standing and stooping; capable of lifting and handling prosthetic and orthotic devicesDutiesThis is an open continuous announcement; it will remain open until September 30 2026The initial cut‑off date for referral of eligible applications is April 15 2026, with subsequent reviews as neededEligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur until positions are filledApplies expert knowledge of medical and psychological conditions related to prosthetic useOversees the design, fabrication, and fitting of custom prosthetic and orthotic devicesInterviews patients to determine expectations, lifestyle, home/work environment, and ability to use the deviceNavigates complex or high‑pressure situations with professionalism and strong interpersonal skillsDemonstrates advanced clinical expertise in prosthetics and orthoticsAttends professional and manufacturer training seminarsFollows environmental and occupational safety guidelinesWork schedule: Monday–Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm; telework not available; virtual position not offered#J-18808-Ljbffr
