Corporate Security Specialist (Part-time)We are hiring part‑time Corporate Security Specialists for our Des Moines, Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota offices. Part‑time hours average 20 hours per week (Des Moines) and 32 hours per week (Sioux Falls).As a Corporate Security Specialist at Wellmark, you will support the safety and security of company assets, facilities, and personnel. You will conduct routine patrols, monitor security systems, and respond to incidents with a calm and professional approach. Serving as a visible on‑site presence, you will deter potential threats while contributing to a safe environment for employees, visitors, and stakeholders. You will work closely with other members of the security team and partner with internal departments and external emergency personnel to support day‑to‑day security operations and response efforts.ResponsibilitiesConduct regular patrols of company premises to ensure the safety and security of assets, facilities, and personnel.Monitor security systems, including access control, surveillance cameras, and alarm systems.Respond to security incidents, emergencies, and threats, implementing defensive tactics when necessary.Conduct risk assessments and report potential security vulnerabilities.Respond to medical situations, acting as an intermediary with emergency personnel and conveying information to the emergency services.Secure premises and personnel, prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities and maintaining detailed records of security activities and incidents.Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards for corporate security.May provide security support for corporate events and meetings and business‑related initiatives as needed.May conduct security training and awareness programs for employees as needed.Other duties as assigned.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in security management or related field preferred.2+ years of experience in a security role, preferably within a corporate environment or a related security/protective services role; or equivalent training or experience (e.g., military or law enforcement).Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment and emergency response.Conflict resolution skills, including the ability to de‑escalate situations and engage with offenders.Familiarity with emergency medical protocols (e.g., TCCC/TECC), AED operation, and crisis response strategies.Ability to think critically, applying logic and sound judgment in high‑pressure situations to assess threats and respond appropriately.Demonstrable knowledge of defensive tactics and security equipment.Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, especially when handling sensitive security information or incidents.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively as part of a security team, supporting internal departments and interfacing with external emergency personnel as needed.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends.Axon certification required, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.Preferred Qualifications5+ years of experience in a security role or a related security/protective services role; or equivalent training or experience (e.g., military or law enforcement).Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or equivalent certification.Military or law enforcement background.Experience in corporate security or high‑profile executive protection.Familiarity with and the ability to be certified with limited security defensive equipment.Additional InformationThe nature of the job duties requires you to be in the office 100% of the time. Your presence in‑office is critical to effectively perform the responsibilities of the role.
