    The Deputy General Counsel serves as a key legal leader within City of Hope's national system, advising on complex labor and employment matters across the organization. In this highly visible role, you will partner closely with senior leadership, Human Resources, and other enterprise functions to provide strategic legal counsel, mitigate risk, and support the organization's mission through proactive, solutions-oriented guidance. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide initiatives, shape policy, and drive compliance across a dynamic and growing healthcare system.

    As a successful candidate, you will:

    • Advise on a wide range of labor and employment matters across federal, state, and local laws, including EEO, wage and hour, leave of absence, discrimination, harassment, and union-related issues
    • Serve as a strategic legal partner to senior leadership, HR, and business stakeholders across the enterprise
    • Provide risk assessments and recommendations related to employee relations issues, complaints, and investigations
    • Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements, including severance, compensation, and confidentiality agreements
    • Lead and support workplace investigations and advise on appropriate actions and outcomes
    • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and proactively counsel leadership on business impact
    • Oversee labor relations matters, including collective bargaining agreements, grievances, arbitrations, and union negotiations
    • Manage employment-related claims and litigation, including partnering with and directing outside counsel
    • Develop and review employment policies, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements
    Your qualifications should include:
    • J.D. from an accredited law school
    • Active membership in a State Bar (California preferred or ability to practice in California)
    • 7-10+ years of progressive labor and employment law experience in a law firm, in-house, or comparable environment
    • Deep expertise in employment litigation, employee relations, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions
    • Experience advising on union/collective bargaining matters and complex labor relations issues
    • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and counsel senior leaders
    • Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-impact environment
    • Healthcare or nonprofit experience strongly preferred
