This vacancy is a part‑time Merit position with competitive salary and benefits.GradeGrade 7.Location of PositionWhite Oak Armory, 12200 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904.Main Purpose of JobThis position serves as a uniformed member of Honor Guard Funeral Details IA W MDNG Reg. 600-25 and Maryland Article 65, Section 6, representing the State of Maryland and the Military Department in burial services for military veterans.Position DutiesParticipate in burial services for veterans as part of the honor guard.Perform specialized team positions such as pall bearing, flag folding and presentation, casket bearing, casket watch, and firing detail in accordance with standard procedures.Execute military drill and ceremonial maneuvers.Operate, maintain, and safeguard military weapons.Maintain exceptional standards of military bearing and appearance.Attend scheduled funeral training.Prepare records and reports concerning honor guard activities.Perform other duties as required.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalency certificate.No prior experience required; experience as a uniformed honor guard may substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.Limitations on SelectionMust be a current Military Department Honor Guard employee.Licenses, Registrations, and CertificationsEmployees may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle and must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Maryland.Special RequirementsActive or retired member of the Maryland National Guard or retired in good standing from the Armed Forces of the United States.Successfully complete an eight‑hour gun safety and usage class.Complete 140 hours of honor guard training, including 80 hours at the Army or Air Force Honor Guard School.Completed Military Basic Training.Pass all physical fitness standards, appearance, and training requirements set forth in Army Regulation 600‑9 and Air Force Instruction 40‑502.Bear firearms and demonstrate proficiency in safe use and care on a periodic basis.Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.Not under disciplinary action; subject to background investigations, including regular criminal history checks.BenefitsAs an employee of the State of Maryland, you will have access to health insurance, dental, and vision plans offered at low cost, along with other state benefits.Equal Opportunity StatementAs an equal‑opportunity employer, Maryland is committed to recruiting, retaining, and promoting employees who reflect the state's diversity.#J-18808-Ljbffr
