    Firefighter

    The City of Zanesville is currently accepting applications for lateral transfers. Minority applicants are encouraged to apply. Position qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, Firefighter II (240 CARD) and Paramedic Certification, and current membership in the OP&F OR OPERS pension system. Firefighters must demonstrate the ability to handle the physical requirements of the job and be available for shift assignments. Required licensure or certification includes a State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license, Firefighter II, and Emergency Medical Technician certification.

    Essential duties and responsibilities include responding to emergency medical calls and fire alarms, extinguishing fires, rescuing persons trapped in burning buildings, and conducting fire prevention duties. Firefighters operate various equipment, including fire apparatus, ladders, hose lines, and EMS equipment. They also perform general maintenance and housekeeping duties for fire division facilities and grounds.

    The position involves occasional exposure to extreme conditions and potentially serious hazards during firefighting operations and rescue operations. Physical demands include working in confined spaces, lifting heavy objects, and performing strenuous tasks under hazardous conditions. Knowledge of firefighting, emergency medical skills, and local street locations is required. Skills in using firefighting and rescue equipment, fighting fires, and performing emergency medical techniques are essential.

    Required documents to upload with the application include a driver's license copy, résumé, and other relevant certificates. Additional documents may include a DD214 (if applicable). A thorough background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological exam, and physical/drug screen will be conducted.
