PLEASE NOTE: Salary is dependent on experience. Yamhill County typically hires between steps 1-4 Yamhill County Sheriff's Office is actively recruiting to create a pool of diverse candidates eligible for current and future regular, full-time entry-level Deputy vacancies in our Enforcement (Patrol) Division. Candidates who are not selected for full-time positions may be offered the opportunity to proceed as part-time (volunteer; unpaid) Reserve Deputy candidates.
Enforcement Deputies patrol county roads and residential and business areas, as well as waterways, to enforce local and state laws, investigate traffic accidents, and investigate crimes and complaints relating to criminal law enforcement in the County.
Positions require work in a 24-hour per day, 7-day a week environment with shift rotation in 8-hour, 10-hour, or 12-hour shifts depending on assignment. May be required to work with rotating shift schedules including working day, swing, and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
These positions are represented through Teamsters Local 223. Incentive pay, in addition to base salary, is available for education, certification, and bilingual speakers. Assignment pay is available for detectives, corporals, full-time field training officers, and canine handlers.
These positions carry an 18-month probationary period for entry-level candidates.

Minimum Experience and Training/Other Requirements The Qualifications: - Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
- A high school diploma/GED is required.
- Must possess:
- United States citizenship or have the ability to obtain citizenship within one (1) year of hire;
- an unrestricted state-issued driver's license with the ability to obtain an Oregon driver's license as this position will be required to drive a County vehicle;
- a good driving record; and
- a satisfactory work record and personal history (e.g., free of criminal convictions, although special circumstances may be considered).
- Must be able to be certified by DPSST within timeline established by OAR 259-0080060.
- Employees authorized to operate a private vehicle on County business are required to carry a valid driver's license and liability insurance minimums as outlined in ORS 806.070.
Will be subject to successful completion of a personal background check including, but not limited to, criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, and employment history pursuant to OAR 259-008-0015.

Work Environment/Physical Demands The incumbent typically performs shift-work with periodic change in shifts; working alone in isolated geographic areas in all types of weather and conditions, and often in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment varies depending on the situation. Work involves stress of working with detained individuals. The incumbent will likely encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.
The employee is regularly required to possess the strength and stamina to sit for long periods of time in a patrol vehicle and to enter and exit the vehicle quickly and frequently; and to possess the strength, stamina, coordination, and balance to stand and walk for long periods; to walk and run on uneven surfaces; to bend and reach to conduct inspections/investigations; to climb ladders, fences, and other obstacles; to run in pursuit of individuals; to physically restrain uncooperative and violent individuals, and to carry equipment and supplies.
