We are accepting applications for a Lateral Detective from motivated and enthusiastic certified Police Officers seeking a career with Milwaukie PD, one of the state's leading law enforcement agencies. Our Detectives serve on the Clackamas County Major Crimes Teams, work closely with partner agencies outside of Milwaukie, investigate all types of crimes, from property crimes to person crimes, and have the opportunity to participate in proactive operations and missions. While assigned as a Detective, Milwaukie Police Officers work a 4/10 schedule with weekends off, receive on-call pay and a take-home vehicle. The assignment is a 5-year rotation with an opportunity to reapply. Detectives receive a 7.5% incentive on top of the salary range listed in this post. The Milwaukie Police Department is a dedicated team comprised of 35 sworn officers and eight non-sworn staff. We serve a community of approximately 21,000 just south of Portland, along the banks of the Willamette River.
To qualify and apply as a lateral detective, you must have at least four years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer, two years of experience as a detective, have worked as a full-time paid law enforcement officer within the past 12 months, and have successfully completed a state-certified basic police training academy. The Chief of Police will evaluate your eligibility based on your background and experience. Hiring process for qualified lateral candidates includes bypass written testing and ORPAT, initial screening interview, chief/command staff interview, background check, psychological and physical exams, salary range placement based on an evaluation of past work experience, vacation frontloaded with 40 hours of leave, and sick leave frontloaded with 48 hours of leave.
Incentive pay: 5% for an Associate's degree and/or possessing a DPSST Intermediate Police Officer Certificate. 10% incentive pay for a Bachelor's degree and/or possessing a DPSST Advanced Police Officer Certificate. Additional incentives include bilingual incentive pay, FTO incentive pay, Detective incentive, K-9 handler, School Resource Officer, Acting Sergeant incentive, and Public Information Officer.
Additional benefits include medical, vision & dental, city pays 95% of the premium, employee pays 5%, accrue 10 hours of holiday leave each month in lieu of holidays, $100,000 city-paid life insurance plan, city-paid PERS retirement, city-paid 3.5% deferred compensation contribution to a 457(b) plan with no match required, and on-site fitness center open 24/7.
