    Security Officer - DCMC - All Shifts - Full Time & Part Time

    To provide personal and asset protection for patients, visitors and employees throughout the Medical Center facility, and to prevent any potential hazardous conditions through continuous monitoring of all areas.

    Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Maintaining personal and asset security by conducting hazard surveillance rounds.
    • Monitoring radio communication, telephone, and written notes for daily information.
    • Maintaining good standing with the Maryland Department of State Police Licensing (MDSPLD) application, fingerprinting, certification, and training requirements.
    • Responding timely to all emergency calls throughout the facility following established guidelines.
    • Conducting preliminary investigations into thefts, shortages, and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct.
    • Preparing and submitting written reports, investigations, and daily events in a complete, timely, and accurate manner.
    • Conducting various levels of personal safety screening for weapons, contraband, and any other unauthorized items permitted in the facility.
    • Participating in crisis intervention with staff, patients, visitors, and others to restore and maintain order.
    • Performing regular patrols of assigned areas on the main campus and its satellite office buildings.
    • Maintaining accountability for valuables/property and other forms of evidence.
    • Assisting with keys, verifying and issuing contractor badges, providing on-campus traffic control, parking enforcement, and monitoring building systems.
    • Readies and secures helicopter landing area. Escorts medical personnel to patient location. Provides support for patient transports.
    • Providing safety escorts and assistance for staff, visitors, and patients as requested.
    • Contributing to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adhering to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
    • Performing fire drills as required.
    • May have to work other shifts as necessary.

    Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services, requirements, and competency evaluations on time.

    Understands regulatory requirements with regard to compliance and all other laws and regulations that apply to the organizational operations and how these regulations apply to the individual's role/department/unit. Proactive in addressing compliance issues; reporting through appropriate channels such as supervisor, chain of command, and Ethics Point. Completes mandatory introductory and ongoing training within the specified timeframes.

    Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).

    Works collaboratively and supports efforts of team members. Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff, and the broader health care community.

    Qualifications include:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • At least one (1) year of Health care Safety and Security experience preferred but not required.
    • Must pass a criminal records background check prior to employment.
    • Maryland Security Guard Card preferred.
    • Possess strong verbal, interpersonal communications skills and excellent customer service a must.
    • Successfully complete Conflict Management training and demonstrate the ability to non-escalate, de-escalate, and ensure safe physical stabilization tactics within six months.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland driver's license or valid license from the state in which the employee resides with no more than two (2) Points on current driving record.
    • Applicants must be able to obtain State of Maryland Guard Card and maintain good standing with the Maryland State Police.
    • BLS/CPR Certification through the American Heart Association is preferred and must obtain within 90 days of hire.
    • IAHSS Basic Officer Certification preferred, required for any promotion.

    There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

    Physical Demands Heavy

    Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
