    Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)

    Our client is a design-build contractor that specializes in federal healthcare projects at military installations across the United States. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, they deliver projects nationwide with a culture where people are valued and empowered to deliver amazing results. They have an immediate opening for a Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO). This is a traveling role, with full coverage of lodging, per diem, and transportation expenses. The SSHO will play a critical role in maintaining a safe, compliant, and proactive work environment on federal healthcare projects.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serve as the on-site SSHO, ensuring daily compliance with all project safety requirements.
    • Implement and enforce safety programs in alignment with EM 385-1-1, OSHA standards, and federal regulations.
    • Prepare, update, and maintain required safety documentation, including: Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) Daily reports and toolbox talks
    • Conduct daily site inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
    • Lead site safety orientations and training for employees and subcontractors.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for all government and client representatives regarding safety issues.
    • Participate in weekly progress and safety meetings, providing updates and recommendations.
    • Investigate incidents and near-misses, prepare reports, and implement corrective actions.
    • Promote a culture of safety and ensure active worker engagement in safety programs.

    Requirements:

    • 3+ years of construction safety experience; prior federal or military project experience strongly preferred.
    • OSHA 30 required; EM 385-1-1 certification required or ability to obtain before mobilization.
    • First Aid/CPR certification required.
    • Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, hazard recognition, and incident prevention.
    • Previous experience preparing APPs, AHAs, and leading toolbox talks.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse project teams and subcontractors.
    • Experience with healthcare projects is a plus.
    • Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, Primavera, etc.) preferred.
    • Willingness to travel full-time to project sites nationwide.
