    Overview

    Omega Technical Services is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to support current and upcoming projects at the 222-S Laboratory located at the Hanford Site. This is a Full-time position estimated for 6 months.

    Responsibilities

    Fire and Life Safety Inspections:

    • Perform fire protection and life safety inspections of 222-S Complex facilities in compliance with HLMI-PRO-FP-50176, 222-S Laboratory Fire Protection and Life Safety Related Inspections.
      • Site Form A-6009-146, HLMI Monthly Fire Prevention Inspections, is used to inspect specific rooms at the 222-S Building on a monthly basis, April to December. These inspections are not performed January to March.
      • Site Form A-6009-147, HLMI Quarterly Fire Prevention Inspections, is used to inspect specific buildings across the 222-S Complex, except Building 222-S, on a quarterly basis.
    • Complete applicable forms and document non-compliances and attempt to resolve with facility owner.
    • If resolution is not achievable in a timely manner, record non-compliances using Navarro-ATL Issues Management process.
    • Submit final inspection reports within the month or quarter that they apply
    • Deliverable - complete Site Forms A-6009-146/147 as applicable.

    Fire Protection Program Continuous Improvement:

    • Develop deliverables to actions impacting the Fire Protection Program in compliance with Issues Management System condition reports.
    • Condition reports identify code non-compliances and opportunities for improvement due to some tangible less than adequate process or aspect of the fire protection program or its implementation across the 222-S Complex.
    • Deliverables are specific to actions, and include but are not limited to, procedure revisions, inspections, code equivalency development, interpretation of code requirements, data sheet updates, and field changes as necessary.
    • Each action will be managed as a task with a schedule developed, requiring its own unique research and development, may require collaboration with representatives of internal and external organizations (especially if impacts to them), and is subject to review with the Fire Protection Program Manager prior to completion.
    • Deliverable - variable, but evidence of action closure attached to iCAS condition reports corresponding to unique action deliverable statements.

    Evaluations & Assessments:

    • Develop fire/life hazards evaluations and fire hazards evaluations as necessary for changes (additions/modifications/removal) to structures, systems or components with potential to impact or compromise fire protection or life safety systems.
      • Develop as a technical evaluation in compliance with HLMI-PRO-ENG-50473, Technical Evaluations.
    • Perform facility fire protection assessments of 222-S Complex facilities in compliance with HLMI-STD-FP-50569, Fire Hazard Analysis and Fire Protection Assessment Requirements.
      • Site Form A-6009-114, Navarro-ATL Facility Fire Protection Assessment, is used identify fire protection deficiencies at unique facilities within the 222-S Laboratory Complex.
    • Develop exemption/equivalency reports for divergence from established fire and life safety codes in compliance with HLMI-STD-FP-50569, Fire Hazard Analysis and Fire Protection Assessment Requirements.
      • Develop as a technical evaluation in compliance with HLMI-PRO-ENG-50473, Technical Evaluations.
    Education Requirements
    • BS in an engineering discipline and at least 8 years Fire Protection Engineering experience. Meet the qualifications for Member Grade in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, possess a Professional Member Grade in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, or be a registered Professional Fire Protection Engineer.
    Qualifications

    • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
    • Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
    • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
    • Thorough understanding and demonstrated application of the International Building Code, NFPA codes and standards, and Federal or State occupational safety and health requirements that impact facility safety and equipment design.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred.
    • Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.


    Work Schedule

    4/10's (10 hours/day; four days per week).
