    Job Description

    Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse, culturally competent staff at all levels of the organization who reflect the demographics of our students. We also believe in providing an ongoing investment in our faculty and staff to deepen their skills and competencies to serve the full range of our student population.

    Reynolds is seeking a Campus Police Officer to help maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves enforcing state laws and campus regulations, responding to routine and emergency situations, and ensuring the protection of campus property. The officer serves as a visible presence on campus, promoting safety and providing exceptional customer service. Duties include patrolling campus grounds, operating police vehicles and equipment, responding to alarms, writing reports, and assisting with investigations.

    The position may also involve overseeing part-time security staff and implementing security protocols. Requires a current certification or the ability to obtain certification as a campus police officer as mandated by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).

    Special Assignments

    May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

    KSA's/Required Qualifications
    • Considerable knowledge of statute enforcement, safety and security concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques
    • Working knowledge of customer service practices and principles
    • Skilled in operating police vehicles, communication equipment, alarm systems, and other types of law enforcement equipment
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct full time and part-time security staff as needed
    • Demonstrated ability to follow and give oral and written instructions effectively
    • Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately in both routine and emergency situations
    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage a diverse population
    • Demonstrated ability to gather information, write accurate and factual reports, and explain or enforce policies, rules, and regulations
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement security policies and procedures
    • Must hold current certification or have the ability to obtain certification as a campus police officer as mandated by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
    • Proficient in handling firearms and operating an emergency motor vehicle
    • Valid Virginia Driver's License.
    Additional Considerations
    • First Aid, AED, and CPR training certification.
    • Basic skills in the operation of personal computers.
