    Part-time Patrol Deputies Wanted

    The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is looking for part-time patrol deputies to join our ranks! We are a progressive law enforcement agency that promotes a community policing philosophy. This part-time position requires a commitment to work at least 120 hours per year (and offers a maximum of 1,040 hours per year). Pay is $36.72/hour and is eligible for COLA increases.

    Our dedicated and elite patrol deputies:

    • Prevent crime by explaining and enforcing applicable federal, state, county, and local laws and ordinances; teaching preventative, protective, and defensive tactics; mediating disputes; patrolling assigned area; responding to notices of disturbances; conducting searches; observing suspicious activities; detaining suspects.
    • Apprehend suspects by responding to complaints and calls for help; observing violations; making arrests.
    • Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence; interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.

    To join us in protecting and serving the citizens and visitors of towns in Cumberland County, you must:

    • Be at least 21 years of age;
    • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent;
    • Hold a valid Maine driver's license;
    • Reside in the state of Maine and not more than 15 miles outside the Cumberland County border.
    • Be certified by the MCJA to work as a full-time patrol officer.
