The City of Richmond Police Department is accepting applications for Police Officer - Retiree Part Time. Requirements include having retired from RPD, retirement must have been in the last 5 years or still hold a current DCJS certification. If still employed with RPD, must complete the DROP program before eligible (If the DROP was not completed, you must be separated from the city for a period of no less than 12 months). Must be separated from the department for at least one pay cycle and can apply after 30 days. Weekly hours permitted are 29-32. We are required to pay overtime if it is worked; however, it should be avoided. Must work over 29 hours a week or can be removed from the program. Rehired part-time employees can lose pension benefits if they work a full-time schedule.
Benefits include monthly retirement/pensions benefits will continue. There is no recalculation. You will not earn additional retirement benefits for/during your re-employment period. Upon rehire, you are eligible for the same employee benefits that any other part-time permanent position would receive. Permanent part-time employees who work 25 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in medical and dental benefits, and the Deferred Compensation 457 Plan. Upon rehire, you are eligible to earn vacation and sick time on a pro-rata basis based on your hours. Your accrued time off will begin with 0 (zero) hours accrued and your crediting rate to earn time off will be the same as a new employee.
Duties include but are not limited to approved assignments such as Patrol Services, including Regular Patrol, ECO/TDO/Prisoner Watch, and Precinct Walking Assignments. Assignments can be offered on a case by case basis. Successful completion of an interview, thorough background investigation, to include a polygraph exam, physical and drug/alcohol screening, is required. Please note that the Police Department background process may take up to 60-90 days. An applicant disqualified from the Police background process may reapply a year after disqualification.
Training requirements include rehired employees will complete Reentry or a modified Basic Training Class with the Training Academy prior to assignment. 40 HOURS OF In-Service, 4 weeks of Field Training, and any relevant or missing re-entry training. Subsequent to successful completion, the officer will be required to maintain all applicable RPD and DCJS mandated training and certifications.
