The Airports Systems Technician responds to system outages or impacts as the first line of defense to troubleshoot issues and restore service. Incumbent performs skilled work monitoring, installing, altering, maintaining and repairing Baggage Handling System (BHS) Controls, Domestic Water Controls, Energy Management Control Systems, Storm Water Control Systems, Autoclave Controls, access control system-managed electronic door and gate hardware, Passenger Boarding Bridge Controls, as well as a variety of other electrical equipment within the City of Fresno Airports Department. In coordination with the Information Services Department (ISD), support and maintain field-level hardware components of the Airport's Security Systems.
The Airports department currently has one vacancy. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.
The requirements include two (2) years of experience working with any combination of mechanical/conveyor systems, energy management controls, security system hardware components, people moving systems and controls or related systems. A valid California's Driver's License is required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record. Ability to pass a TSA-mandated Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and Security Threat Assessment (STA). The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
The selection process may consist of the following: Written Examination - 100%: The written examination is designed to assess a candidate's ability to read engineering plans and specifications, establish and maintain good work relationships and knowledge of the principles and practices of Airports Systems. Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Written Examination to qualify for placement on the eligible list. The written examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of July 6, 2026.
Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Qualified veterans who pass the examination will have five (5) points added to their final score.
