    Police Officer II

    The Police Officer II prevents and investigates violations of the law, University rules and regulations under the direction of a Sergeant and/or Lieutenant.

    Essential Duties/Tasks
    • Patrol - Patrols property under the jurisdiction of the Texas A&M University in Galveston County by motor vehicle, bicycle, or on foot. Enforces all criminal laws of the state of Texas and violations of Texas A&M at Galveston rules and regulations.
    • Administrative - Takes reports and performs preliminary police investigations. Reports all violations of the rules and regulations of Texas A&M University oat Galveston.
    • Public Service - Provides assistance to the public whenever possible. Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances. Issues citations and testifies in justice of the peace courts, as well as county and district courts and at student judicial hearings. Guards and transports prisoners.
    • Emergency Response/Other - Interacts with the public on a day-to-day basis. Responds to emergency calls and takes appropriate action. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Salary: $24.54 hourly

    Required Education and Experience:

    • High school graduation or GED.
    • One year as a licensed Police Officer.

    Required Licenses and Certifications:

    • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification.
    • Must have a State of Texas class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Two or more years as a licensed Police Officer.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
    • Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.

    Other Requirements and Factors Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Applicant must pass an entrance exam to be considered for employment. Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history. Under certain conditions, such as a break in law enforcement service of more than 180 days, additional testing may be required.
