    Police Officer

    Provides crime prevention and law enforcement services for the Town through proactive patrol, preliminary investigations, and traffic control duties in a designated area during an assigned shift. This position is open to those who are currently certified as a Peace Officerby the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE); OR Out of State Peace Officers who can meet minimum standards for Texas licensure (TCOLE RULE §217.1 at or before the conditional offer is given).     Examples of duties include patrolling a specific beat or unit, responding to calls for police service, conducting thorough investigations, securing crime scenes, directing traffic, completing reports, guarding and transporting prisoners, testifying in court, operating and maintaining vehicle and equipment, attending training activities, maintaining evidence, and maintaining positive relationships with the public and co-workers.

    Minimum qualifications include being a U.S. citizen, having a valid state-issued driver's license, passing the hiring process and meeting TCOLE requirements, being at least 21 years of age, being certified as a Peace Officer by TCOLE, completing the Police Training Officer (PTO) field training program, having no convictions involving family violence, no convictions of a Class B misdemeanor or greater, no criminal charges pending, no marijuana or illegal drug use within the last two or five years, not being on probation for any criminal offense, and not having more than three chargeable accidents within the last three years.

    Desired qualifications include knowledge of police officer and law enforcement regulations, excellent communicative skills, bilingual skills preferred, ability to follow verbal and written directives, ability to work flexible hours and accept on-call duty status, and maintaining confidentiality with criminal and investigative information.

    The hiring process includes a 2000 Meter/4-Minute Row Evaluation, interview with a background investigator, oral board with members of the Police Department, background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological examination, and medical examination/drug screen. The order of the steps may vary according to departmental needs and schedules.
